The Shack

I just read this book and wept frequently during the book. Redemption and Grace get me every time. The story is very compelling and caught me off guard with the tangible qualities of the characters. I felt very much in tune with "Mack" and have had enough similarities with my childhood that the redemption and healing process really struck a nerve. I highly recommend the read and will be getting more copies to some people that I know that could benefit from the read.

  1. Dave,

I think I had the same kind of response when I first read The Shack. It is pretty well written and undeniably an emotional rock your worlder. Now, with some months between reading it and life as it is, with some reflection on its portrayal of the Trinity and the Person of God, and with some reading of critics of the book, I would strongly recommend that you take a step back from how you feel about it right now. Take a look at some of the things written about it (I don't have links at hand, but I would go to www.christianworldviewnetwork.com). Also, consider that the author does not subscribe to orthodox Christianity, as he does not believe that Christ's death and resurrection was necessary for our salvation. What is he trying to convey/convince with this book? I wonder. You of all people understand how dangerous it is to compromise on the accuracy of the Truth. Please think about it.

    Your friend,

    Derek

  2. Point taken. I know there are some theological problems with it. I haven't dug too deeply into those yet. I debated reading it. But I do like the treatment of redemption, Grace, and certain aspects of his portrayal of the Trinity. I will have to read some critical reviews and perhaps post again on the subject once I've digested it all. Thanks Derek. You are a rock.
